Mental Health Matters!

Did you know that Utah is one of the worst States in America when it comes to overall Mental Health? That's right, we're right there at the bottom! We have work to do!

Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood.

There is a very strong correlation between a person's mental health and physical health conditions. Mental health is a very "physical" condition. For example, people with anxiety and depression have physical issues such as headaches, heart palpitations, chronic pain and an increased level of stress. We know that stress lowers the body's immune system, thereby opening the chances of various physical illnesses including cancer.

Walking into individual therapy can feel like the start of something truly life-changing—and that's exactly what happens when you meet our compassionate, highly skilled professionals. Right from the first session, you'll be greeted with genuine warmth, deep listening, and zero judgment, as they take the time to truly understand your unique story, struggles, strengths, and dreams. Together, you'll craft a personalized treatment plan tailored just for you—not a cookie-cutter approach, but a clear, step-by-step roadmap designed around your specific goals, whether that's reducing anxiety, building confidence, healing from past hurts, or reclaiming joy in daily life. Research backs this up: personalized therapy often leads to higher satisfaction, stronger engagement, and bigger improvements (with many clients seeing substantial progress and feeling far more empowered). Our therapists are experts at guiding you with evidence-based tools, regular check-ins, and adjustments along the way, so you feel supported every step. Clients walk out of these sessions feeling hopeful, understood, and excited about the progress ahead—because when therapy is built around you, the path to feeling stronger, clearer, and genuinely happier becomes not just possible, but incredibly rewarding. You'll be so glad you took that step!

ADHD

At Therapeuo Health, we know that ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder) in children (and adults) can look different from one child to another.

Parents often notice the core signs like trouble focusing or being extra active, but many don't realize that ADHD can also lead to secondary challenges — things like anxiety, low mood/depression, defiance, aggression, or oppositional behavior.

These added behavioral issues don't just make life harder for the child and family — they can intensify the original ADHD symptoms and create a cycle that's tough to break. Traditional stimulant medications (while helpful for some) sometimes come with side effects that complicate things further.

That's why we focus on drug-free, non-invasive options. Using qEEG brain mapping and personalized neurofeedback, we help address the underlying brain patterns linked to both the core ADHD symptoms and any related behavioral or emotional struggles — supporting better focus, calmer responses, and stronger family dynamics.

Understanding ADHD Symptoms in Children

ADHD shows up in three main presentations (based on the most prominent traits). A child might have mostly one type or a mix (the most common is combined).

  1. Inattentive Presentation (Often Called "ADD" in the past)These kids may seem "dreamy" or spacey rather than disruptive, but they struggle significantly with everyday tasks:
    • Easily distracted by sights, sounds, or unrelated thoughts.
    • Trouble sustaining focus on non-preferred activities (like homework or chores).
    • Difficulty finishing tasks or following through without constant reminders/supervision.
    • Poor working/short-term memory (e.g., forgetting multi-step instructions right away).
    • Often appears not to listen, even when spoken to directly.
    • Frequently loses things, forgets to turn in homework, or misses details.
  2. Hyperactive-Impulsive PresentationThese children are often on the move and act before thinking:
    • Fidgety, squirmy, or unable to sit still for long (even during meals or class).
    • Feels restless inside — may run, climb, or talk excessively.
    • Acts impulsively: blurting out answers, interrupting others, having trouble waiting their turn.
    • Difficulty thinking through consequences before acting (e.g., grabbing toys, running into streets).
    • May seem "always on the go" or driven by a motor.
  3. Combined PresentationA mix of inattentive AND hyperactive-impulsive symptoms — this is the most common type we see in children.

The Bigger Picture: Secondary Behavioral & Emotional Challenges

When ADHD goes unaddressed or unmanaged, many children develop overlapping issues that make symptoms feel even more intense:

  • Oppositional or defiant behavior — Arguing with adults, refusing requests, losing temper easily, or deliberately annoying others.
  • Aggression or anger outbursts — More frequent tantrums, fighting, or physical reactions when frustrated.
  • Anxiety — Constant worry, perfectionism, fear of failure, or physical signs like stomachaches.
  • Low mood or depression — Feeling worthless, withdrawing, loss of interest in fun activities, or irritability masking sadness.

These aren't separate problems — they're often connected to the same brain patterns that drive ADHD (like challenges with self-regulation, impulse control, or emotional processing).

How We Help at Therapeuo Health

We start with a qEEG brain map to see exactly what's happening in your child's brain — pinpointing areas of dysregulation linked to inattention, hyperactivity, impulsivity, or emotional/behavioral challenges.

From there, we create customized neurofeedback protocols — a gentle, learning-based process that helps the brain practice calmer, more focused, and better-regulated patterns. No drugs, no side effects — just training the brain to work more efficiently.

Many families see improvements like:

  • Better attention and task completion.
  • Fewer impulsivity-driven mishaps.
  • Reduced defiance or emotional outbursts.
  • Calmer moods and stronger self-control..
  • Easier family interactions and school success

If your child is showing these signs and you're looking for a natural, targeted way forward (without jumping straight to medication), a brain map gives clear insights and a personalized plan.

OCD

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)

At Therapeuo Health, we recognize that Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) can feel incredibly overwhelming — it's much more than just liking things "neat and tidy." OCD involves unwanted, intrusive thoughts (obsessions) that create intense anxiety or distress, leading to repetitive behaviors or mental acts (compulsions) that a person feels driven to perform to try to ease that discomfort.

It's a real brain-based condition, and it's more common than many people think: About 1 in 100 children and teens (and roughly 2-3% of adults) in the U.S. experience OCD at some point.

Symptoms often start in childhood or adolescence (with a common early peak around ages 8-12), though they can appear later too. Early recognition and support can make a huge difference in daily life.

What OCD Looks Like: Key Signs & Symptoms

OCD symptoms fall into two main categories — obsessions and compulsions — and they often create a cycle: The thoughts cause anxiety, the behaviors provide temporary relief, but the cycle keeps repeating and can take up a lot of time (often more than an hour a day), causing real distress or interfering with school, work, relationships, or fun.

  1. Obsessions (Unwanted, Intrusive Thoughts, or Urges)These are persistent ideas, images, or impulses that pop up repeatedly, feel disturbing or "wrong," and are hard to ignore or push away — even when the person knows they're excessive or unrealistic. Common themes include:
    • Fear of contamination, germs, dirt, or illness.
    • Worries about harming self or others (even though there's no real intent).
    • Fears of something terrible happening if things aren't "just right.”
    • Doubts and need for certainty (e.g., "Did I really lock the door?").
    • Unwanted aggressive, sexual, or religious thoughts that cause guilt or shame
    • Strong need for symmetry, order, or perfection.
    • Kids might not always explain these thoughts clearly — they may just feel a vague "bad" feeling until rituals are done.
  2. Compulsions (Repetitive Behaviors or Mental Acts)These are actions (or mental routines) done over and over to reduce anxiety from obsessions or prevent a feared outcome. They often provide short-term relief but don't solve the problem long-term and can become very time-consuming. Common ones include:
    • Excessive hand-washing, showering, or cleaning.
    • Checking things repeatedly (locks, appliances, homework).
    • Counting, repeating words silently, or praying in a ritualistic way.
    • Arranging or ordering items in a specific way.
    • Seeking reassurance from others ("Did I do this right?").
    • Avoiding certain situations, objects, or thoughts that trigger obsessions.

In children, compulsions might involve family members (e.g., insisting parents say things a certain way or follow exact routines).

The Bigger Picture

OCD isn't about being a "neat freak" or "perfectionist" — it's about feeling trapped in a loop of distressing thoughts and rituals that interfere with life. Many people with OCD also experience anxiety, depression, or tics, and the condition can make everyday tasks feel exhausting.

Why We Use the qEEG and Neurofeedback prior to Behavioral Therapy or Exposure Therapy

For many years, the “gold standard” for OCD is to use Exposure Response Therapy (ERT). Our philosophy is very different. We approach OCD by FIRST calming the brain and THEN allowing the client to learn or change desired behaviors. In our opinion, our success rate of treating OCD has greatly improved by FIRST treating the brainwave activity – thereby setting the client up for greater success.

At Therapeuo Health, we use qEEG brain mapping to gently look at the unique brain patterns often linked to OCD — such as overactivity in areas involved in error detection, doubt, or worry loops. This helps us create personalized neurofeedback protocols — a safe, non-invasive, drug-free training process that guides the brain toward calmer, more balanced functioning.

Many clients notice meaningful improvements like:

  • Fewer intrusive thoughts and less intense anxiety.
  • Reduced need for rituals or checking.
  • Better focus, sleep, and emotional regulation.
  • Easier participation in daily life, school, or social activities.

OCD is treatable, and you're not "crazy" or "broken" — your brain is just stuck in a pattern that we can help retrain naturally. If you or your child is dealing with these kinds of thoughts and behaviors, a qEEG brain map offers clear, personalized insights and a gentle path forward.

Autism Spectrum Disorder

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

At Therapeuo Health, we understand that Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how a child experiences and interacts with the world. It's called a "spectrum" because every person with autism is unique — symptoms can range from mild to more significant, and no two children are exactly alike.

ASD is Fairly Common

Recent estimates from the CDC show that about 1 in 31 children (around 3.2%) in the U.S. is identified with autism, with boys being diagnosed more often than girls (roughly 3-4 times more frequently). Signs usually become noticeable in early childhood — often by age 1 to 3 — when differences in social skills, communication, and behavior stand out compared to typical development.

What Is Autism Spectrum Disorder?

Autism is a lifelong developmental difference that primarily impacts:

  • Social communication and interaction.
  • Behaviors, interests, or activities (often restricted or repetitive).

It doesn't cause physical differences you can see outwardly, and intelligence can vary widely — some children with autism have average or above-average abilities in certain areas.

Common Signs & Symptoms in Children

Symptoms typically appear in early childhood, though they can look different depending on the child's age, strengths, and support needs. Here are the key areas where differences often show up:

Social Communication & Interaction Challenges

  • Limited or no eye contact (or it feels unusual/intense).
  • Not responding to their name by around 9-12 months.
  • Difficulty with back-and-forth conversation (e.g., trouble sharing interests or taking turns in talk).
  • Less interest in or difficulty making friends/playing with peers.
  • Not pointing to share interest (e.g., not showing you something exciting by pointing).
  • Trouble understanding others' feelings, facial expressions, or body language.
  • May prefer playing alone or in parallel rather than cooperatively.

Restricted, Repetitive Behaviors or Interests

  • Repetitive movements (e.g., hand-flapping, rocking, spinning, or lining up toys).
  • Intense focus on specific topics or objects (e.g., memorizing facts about trains, dinosaurs, or numbers).
  • Strong need for routines/sameness — distress with changes (even small ones like a different route home).
  • Unusual sensory responses — over- or under-sensitive to sounds, lights, textures, tastes, or pain.
  • Repetitive speech (echolalia — repeating phrases from TV, movies, or others) or scripted talking.

Other Common Early Signs (Often Noticeable in Babies & Toddlers)

  • Delayed speech or language skills (or loss of words/skills previously gained).
  • Not using gestures like waving bye-bye or nodding.
  • Limited pretend/imaginative play (e.g., not feeding a doll or pretending).
  • Unusual reactions to sensory input (covering ears at everyday sounds, fascination with lights/spinning objects).
  • Walking on tiptoes, unusual posture, or motor differences.

Every child develops at their own pace, so not all of these will apply to every child with autism. Some kids may excel in certain areas (like memory or detail-oriented tasks) while struggling in others.

How We Support at Therapeuo Health

We use qEEG brain mapping to identify unique patterns of brain activity often associated with autism-related challenges — such as differences in social processing networks, sensory regulation, or executive function areas.

From there, we create personalized, non-invasive neurofeedback protocols — a gentle, drug-free training process that helps the brain practice smoother, more balanced patterns.

Many families see improvements in:

  • Communication and social engagement.
  • Reduced repetitive behaviors or sensory sensitivities.
  • Better emotional regulation and flexibility.
  • Overall calmer responses to daily life.

This approach often complements other supports (like speech therapy or behavioral interventions) and empowers the brain's natural ability to adapt.

If you're noticing some of these signs in your child and want clear insights into what's happening in their brain, a qEEG brain map is a comfortable, informative first step.

In Addition

We are going to be offering testing (ADOS-2) to help families finally receive a diagnosis so they can benefit from needed resources in the community. The ADOS-2 would be in conjunction with the qEEG brainmap to help put the “pieces of the puzzle” together.

Not only is the testing important, so is the support needed for parents, care-givers, family members, etc.

We will be offering groups and educational classes for those in need of additional support.

Sleep Disturbances

At Therapeuo Health, we know that sleep disturbances can quietly (or not so quietly!) drain energy, mood, focus, and overall well-being for both children and adults. Whether it's trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, waking too early, or poor-quality rest, these issues are common and treatable — and they're often linked to underlying brain patterns that can be gently retrained.

Sleep problems affect a significant number of people: In the U.S., roughly 20-30% of children and adolescents experience notable sleep difficulties (with some studies showing up to 25-44% reporting issues), while many adults deal with chronic insomnia or other disruptions. When sleep is consistently off-track, it can contribute to daytime fatigue, irritability, trouble concentrating, behavioral challenges in kids, or even heightened anxiety and mood struggles.

Common Signs & Symptoms of Sleep Disturbances

Sleep issues show up in different ways depending on age, but here are the most frequent signs:

Nighttime Symptoms (During or Around Sleep)

  • Trouble falling asleep (taking 30+ minutes or more, even when tired).
  • Frequent waking up during the night (and trouble falling back asleep).
  • Waking too early and unable to return to sleep.
  • Snoring, gasping, pauses in breathing, or restless/awkward sleeping positions (common in sleep apnea).
  • Nightmares, night terrors (sudden waking in intense fear, often with crying/screaming but little memory of it), or sleepwalking/talking.
  • Restless legs — an uncomfortable urge to move legs, especially at night, which can delay sleep onset.
  • Bedtime resistance, tantrums, or anxiety about going to bed (more common in children).

Daytime Symptoms (The Ripple Effects)

  • Excessive tiredness or needing naps (even after "enough" hours in bed)
  • Irritability, mood swings, or short temper
  • Difficulty focusing, hyperactivity (especially in kids — poor sleep can look a lot like ADHD)
  • Trouble with memory, learning, or school/work performance
  • Headaches, especially in the morning
  • Feeling "wired but tired" — exhausted yet unable to relax

These patterns can stem from various causes: stress/anxiety, irregular schedules, brain wave dysregulation (like overactive "alert" patterns or underactive "calm" ones), or conditions like insomnia, sleep apnea, restless legs, or circadian rhythm shifts (e.g., teens staying up late).

How We Help at Therapeuo Health

We start with a qEEG brain map — a comfortable, non-invasive way to see your (or your child's) unique brain activity patterns. This often reveals imbalances linked to sleep issues, such as excessive fast-wave activity (keeping the brain "on alert") or disruptions in slower, restorative rhythms needed for deep, refreshing sleep.

From there, we create personalized neurofeedback protocols — a gentle, drug-free training process where your brain gets real-time feedback to practice calmer, more balanced patterns. You simply relax (often watching a movie or listening to music) while safe sensors listen to brain signals and guide gentle adjustments.

Many clients experience meaningful, lasting improvements like:

  • Falling asleep faster and more easily.
  • Fewer nighttime awakenings and better sleep quality.
  • Waking up feeling more refreshed and alert.
  • Reduced daytime fatigue, irritability, or focus struggles.
  • Calmer evenings and stronger overall resilience.

No medications, no side effects — just helping your brain rediscover its natural ability to rest deeply and recharge.

If sleep disturbances are affecting your days (or your child's), you're not alone — and real, sustainable change is possible. A qEEG brain map gives clear insights and a tailored path forward.
